CONFERENCE TO ENHANCE CHINA-ASEAN EXCHANGES



KUALA LUMPUR, June 25 (Bernama) -- Come next month, 170 key representatives
from China and Asean will gather here for the fourth Conference on Asean-China
People-to-People Friendship Organisations (CACPPFO) to further people-to-people
exchanges involving common interests.

Organised by Malaysia China Friendship Organisation (PPMC), the four-day
event beginning July 15, has lined up a host of programmes, including the
Asean-China Commodities Exhibition and a trade forum with China.

PPMC president Abdul Majid Ahmad Khan said the conference was also
held in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations between
Malaysia and China.

"The main objective of this conference is to provide a platform whereby,
people-to-people exchanges in economy, trade, public health, tourism and sport,
as well as mutual investments in the region and diplomatic activities will be
further enhanced," he told a press conference here today.

Abdul Majid said PPMC hoped to get 120 participants from China and Asean,
and 50 from Malaysia.

The conference will also see the Third China-Asean Youth Dancing Competition
and friendly football matches.
