Chinese company to invest US$ 15 million on tree plantation

(KPL) A Chinese company, Douangtaven Company said it would invest US$ 15 million to plant eucalyptus and acacia trees on 6,000 hectares of land in Savannakhet province and it would supply pulp to a Lao paper factory.This is based on information from a meeting convened by the environmental impact study and social-environmental management planners.
The meeting was held on 19 June in Savannakhet province and it was chaired by Mr Noulin Sibandith, Deputy Minister to Prime Minister’s Office.
The area slated for growing the eucalyptus and acacia trees covers 44 villages and three districts, Sepon, Phin and Nong.
The company said it would increase its plantation to 30,000 hectares and have its own paper factory.
Last but not least it assured that it would provide employment and in doing so alleviates poverty.
