The President Of The Republic Receives Ambassador of the US
Baghdad / NINA / -The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, stressed today, Sunday, the importance of finding solutions to the outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region in accordance with the constitution, law and political understandings.
A presidential statement stated that the President of the Republic received, today, Sunday, at Al-Salam Palace in Baghdad, the Ambassador of the United States, Alina Romanski.
During the meeting, the President of the Republic stressed his keenness to continue building strong relations that serve mutual interests, respect national sovereignty, and enhance joint cooperation in various fields.
According to the statement, Rashid pointed to Iraq’s determination to continue the reform approach, eliminate cases of corruption, and build distinguished partnerships that contribute to achieving comprehensive development and economic growth, stressing the importance of benefiting from expertise and experiences and employing them to gain skills and improve the reality of the economic, commercial, agricultural, environmental, and energy sectors.
He explained that the Presidency of the Republic adopted the release of detainees whose sentences had expired and the formation of a committee that included, in addition to the Presidency of the Republic, the Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministries of Justice and Interior, and the National Security Advisor, which is responsible for following up on the files of the convicts and the expiration dates of their sentences, to ensure their release on the specified dates.
According to the statement, the President of the Republic stressed the importance of finding solutions to the outstanding issues between the federal government and the Kurdistan Region in accordance with the Constitution, the law and political understandings, indicating the desire of both sides to continue the dialogue to resolve the issue of the budget and pay the dues of Kurdistan Region employees on the same basis as their fellow employees.
For her part, the American Ambassador affirmed her country's desire to develop relations between the two countries and enhance cooperation in a way that serves the two friendly peoples.
The statement explained that the situation was reviewed at the regional and international levels, and emphasis was placed on supporting opportunities for peace, security and stability in the region. /End
