MALAYSIANS CAN REPLACE INDONESIAN MAIDS - CUEPACS

IPOH, June 26 (Bernama) -- Congress of Union Employees in the Public and
Civil Services (Cuepacs) feels that locals can replace Indonesian
maids following the decision by the republic to halt sending them to Malaysia
with immediate effect.

Cuepacs president Omar Osman said however, the government must review the
wage to commensurate with tasks entrusted.

The government should also study a proposal that maids be given one day off
in a week as it could lead to problems like crime, he said after a dialogue with
the Peninsular Malaysia Road Transport Officers Union here Friday.

In Kota Kinabalu, the Consumer Association of Sabah (Cash) has urged the
Indonesian government to reconsider its decision to halt temporarily
sending maids to Malaysia, especially in Sabah.

Its president, Patrick Sindu said the Indonesian government should not
have taken a drastic action based on isolated cases of maid abuse in Malaysia.

"We still believe that the Indonesian and Malaysian governments could settle
the problem amicably for common good," he told Bernama.
