Ambassador Dahhak: Israeli entity is the only obstacle to make the Middle East free of weapons of mass destruction
New York, SANA-Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Qusay Al-Dahhak, said that Syria pays great attention to making the Middle East free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction due to its importance in maintaining regional and international peace and security, stressing that the only obstacle preventing this from being achieved is rejection of the Israeli entity to join relevant international agreements and submit its facilities to the observation of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
“This session is being held in light of the dangerous conditions our region is witnessing as a result of the continued Israeli occupation of Arab lands and its continuation of committing various violations, the most horrific atrocities, including genocide, war crimes and crimes against humanity for the 179th day against the Palestinian people in Gaza Strip, in addition to its repeated attacks on Syrian territory, the most recent of which was the attack against the Iranian consulate in a crowded areaof civilians in Damascus, which led to the martyrdom and injury of a number of civilians and caused huge material damage,” Al-Dahhak said in a statement on Tuesday before the United Nations Disarmament Commission.
He added that targeting a diplomatic area, which is protected by conventions and international laws, and before it, many civilian facilities and inhabited residential buildings with innocent civilians, affirms the reality of the Zionist entity, which does not give any consideration to international law and the United Nations Charter.
