Hillary Clinton Names New Muslim Community Representative

Washington, June 27, SPA -- U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
on Friday named Farah Pandith to head the new Office of the United
States Special Representative to Muslim Communities, the State
Department announced.

Pandith will be responsible for carrying out the Obama
administration’s efforts to engage with Muslims around the world “on
a people-to-people and organizational level,” the department said in
a statement.

Clinton said she was pleased to announce the appointment because
Pandith “brings years of experience to the job, and she will play a
leading role in our efforts to engage Muslims around the world.”

Pandith has served at the State Department as the senior advisor on
Muslim engagement in the European and Eurasian region. In addition,
she has served on the National Security Council at the White House
where she worked on Muslim engagement and combating extremism.
Pandith is a Muslim who immigrated to the United States with her
parents from Srinagar, India.
