Bahrain regrets UN Security Council’s failure to issue resolution accepting Palestine’s full UN membership

Manama, Apr. 19 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain has regretted the failure of the UN Security Council to adopt a draft resolution accepting full membership of the State of Palestine in the United Nations, in light of the suffering of the brotherly Palestinian people from the occupation, the continuation of the war, and the catastrophic humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.

In a statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that completing international recognition of the Palestinian State and its full membership in the UN is a legal and political right, within the Palestinian people’s inalienable historical rights to establish their independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, on the basis of the two-state solution, in accordance with the Arab Peace Initiative and the relevant international resolutions.

This constitutes an essential step for establishing just, lasting and comprehensive peace in a region where freedom, justice, prosperity, security and peaceful coexistence among all its peoples should prevail, the statement added.
