DPRK Strives to Create Forests for Economic Value

Pyongyang, April 22 (KCNA) -- The Academy of Forest Science in the DPRK strives to ensure the scientific creation of forests of economic value so as to supply enough raw materials to regional-industry factories.
After learning about the creation of economic forests in cities and counties where regional-industry factories are being built this year, the academy held consultative meetings to create various kinds of forests of economic value in conformity with the characteristics of each region.
The consultative meetings discussed the scientific and technological measures for solving the issue of raw materials for regional-industry factories by planting lots of trees for raw materials for oil and paper and fruit-bearing trees which are of high economic value and whose cultivation methods suit the climatic and soil conditions of the country.
On this basis, the academy pushed ahead with the work to further reinforce the scientific and technological forces dispatched to 20 cities and counties.
The field scientists from the academy have helped the creation and cultivation of economic forests in cooperation with scientists and technicians of various research units and relevant regions and generalized the experience in other regions.
Meanwhile, the academy directs efforts to disseminating forest science and technology, thus making video programs about the creation of forests of economic value in a short time, and disseminates and generalizes forest science and technology. -0-
