BAKU (Azerbaijan), May 2 (Bernama) -- The President of the Malaysian Senate Mutang Tagal, paid a courtesy visit to Sahiba Gafarova, the Speaker of the Milli Majlis (National Assembly) of Azerbaijan, on May 1.

The meeting was part of his working visit to Azerbaijan, where he led the Malaysian delegation to attend the "6th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue" which is taking place here, from May 1 to 3.

According to a media statement issued by the Office of the Senate President, the two sides discussed enhancing bilateral cooperation, particularly in education and economic sectors.

In terms of economic cooperation, Mutang invited Azerbaijan to further increase trade and investment in Malaysia, especially in the renewable energy sector.

He also sought logistical support from Gafarova for the Malaysian delegation attending COP29 in Azerbaijan later this year.

Gafarova in the discussion emphasised the importance of the "Parliamentary Network" established under the "Non Aligned Movement" (NAM) which Azerbaijan chaired for four years (2019-2022).

Mutang also invited Gafarova to visit Malaysia to further strengthen mutual understanding and cooperation.

"This meeting not only confirms the strong diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Azerbaijan but also paves the way for deeper bilateral cooperation in various sectors," said the statement.
