Saudi Arabia’s Record of Efforts, Initiatives, Achievements during Its Presidency of 14th Islamic Summit Conference to Support Joint Islamic Action

Jeddah, May 2, 2024, SPA – During the senior officials' meeting in preparation for the 15th session of the Islamic Summit Conference in Banjul, Gambia, held yesterday, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia reviewed a rich record of efforts, initiatives, and valuable achievements accomplished in various sectors undertaken by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) during the Kingdom’s presidency of the 14th Islamic Summit Conference since 2019. This was in an effort to support the organization's endeavors and those of its member states to enhance joint Islamic action.
Following the convening of the Islamic Summit Conference in its 14th session in Makkah about five years ago under the theme "Hand in Hand toward the Future," the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the headquarters of the organization, made vigorous efforts to follow up on the resolutions of the Makkah Summit and address various issues on the organization's agenda.
The Kingdom commenced its presidency of the 14th session by celebrating the organization's 50th anniversary with Saudi funding and hosting, under the generous patronage of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud.
The Kingdom's presidency witnessed numerous significant events, including the COVID-19 pandemic, during which Saudi Arabia provided financial support of SAR20 million to support the OIC initiative to provide vaccines for healthcare workers and seniors in the least developed member countries.
The Kingdom was honored to assume the responsibilities of chairing the summit with deep pride in serving member states and the Islamic nation. It called for and participated in various meetings at the level of delegates, ministers, and leaders, and its officials visited global decision-making countries in diligent attempts to explain the Islamic viewpoint and rally support for issues troubling member states, especially in the political field, including the Palestinian issue.
Saudi Arabia also hosted the Joint Arab-Islamic Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh on November 11, 2023, to discuss the Israeli aggression against the Palestinian people, in addition to the International Conference on “Women in Islam: Status and Empowerment” and the Fourth Mediation Conference. It also called for organizing many official meetings at all levels to discuss Islamic issues.
The Kingdom closely followed up on efforts to restructure and develop the OIC and its apparatuses, and incurred the costs of studies prepared by the Saudi Institute of Public Administration in this regard.
These are among the most prominent achievements, part of a long list of initiatives, projects, and accomplishments achieved under the presidency of the Kingdom of the Islamic Summit Conference, and are a result of precise directives from the Kingdom's leadership, active diplomatic efforts by the Kingdom's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and close, continuous follow-up by the Kingdom's permanent delegation to the OIC to mobilize support for enhancing the organization's work and programs in various fields.
