Seoul shares open higher on tech, builder gains

SEOUL, June 29 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Monday
as investors picked up tech blue chips and construction firms, analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 9.91 points, or 0.71
percent, to 1,404.44 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Leading builder Daewoo Engineering & Construction Co. jumped 11.28 percent after
its parent group Kumho Asiana Group said it will sell the builder in an apparent
effort to avert a worsening liquidity problem.
The local currency was trading at 1,280.2 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 4.10 won from Friday's close.
