Seoul to participate in regional non-proliferation meeting this week

SEOUL, June 29 (Yonhap) -- Seoul will participate in a meeting of
non-proliferation experts and working-level officials in Beijing later this week,
officials said Monday.
The foreign ministry said it will send a delegation to the inaugural meeting on
non-proliferation and disarmament that will be hosted by the ASEAN Regional Forum
(ARF) in Beijing from Wednesday to Friday.
The ARF is a key security dialogue channel for Asia that was set up in July 1993.
ASEAN consists of Singapore, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia,
Myanmar, Thailand, the Philippines and Vietnam.
Participants are expected to share their expertise and up-to-date information on
their implementation of U.N. resolution 1540, adopted in 2004 to prevent transfer
of weapons of mass destruction into the hands of terrorists, and on regulating
suspicious trade activities, officials said.
