Astana hosts meeting on COP29 preparations

A joint meeting on preparations for the upcoming 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, set to be hosted by Azerbaijan this November, was held in Astana, capital of Kazakhstan.
According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Energy, the meeting held in a hybrid format brought together representatives from Kazakhstan's state agencies, international organizations, national companies, and the business community.
Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Energy Ilyas Bakytzhan informed the meeting participants about the work carried out by the Kazakhstan's Energy Ministry regarding the development of low-carbon energy sources, reduction of methane emissions, and a fair energy transition. He underlined that transition to a low-carbon economy, achieving carbon neutrality by 2060, and a gradual energy transition are priority areas for Kazakhstan.
"Kazakhstan is a party to global initiatives aimed at reducing anthropogenic greenhouse gas emissions to the environment. Joining the Global Methane Pledge confirms the country's commitment to the course of a consistent energy transition and opens up opportunities for attracting green investments to the country," the statement reads.
