Seoul shares open higher on Wall Street gains
SEOUL, June 30 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks got off to a strong start Tuesday
as investor sentiment was lifted by overnight gains in U.S. markets, analysts
said.
The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 15.19 points, or
1.09 percent, to 1,403.64 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
U.S. markets gained ground Monday as rising oil prices lifted energy shares. The
Dow Jones industrial average advanced 1.08 percent and the tech-laden Nasdaq
composite index added 0.32 percent.
The local currency was trading at 1,281.8 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15 a.m.,
up 4 won from Monday's close.
