Thai VietJet Pioneers Sustainable Fuel

SAMUT PRAKAN, July 11 (TNA) – PTT Oil and Retail Business (OR) and Thai VietJet Air on Wednesday launched their first flight using Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) on the Bangkok-Da Nang route from Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The SAF is produced from used cooking oil and has similar properties to conventional jet fuel, allowing it to be blended without engine modifications. This initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions in the aviation industry.

OR’s CEO, Disathat Panyarachun, emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability and mentioned that the SAF for this flight was produced by Neste in Finland and imported through collaboration with PTT International Trading and Malaysia’s PETCO Trading Labuan Company.

Thai VietJet Air’s CEO, Woranate Laprabang, stated that this flight marks a significant milestone in the airline’s sustainability mission. The airline aims to use 1% SAF by 2026 and 5% by 2030, potentially reducing CO2 emissions by 153,000 tons between 2025 and 2030.

This initiative aligns with Thailand’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 and supports the global objectives set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for a sustainable future in the aviation industry. -819 (TNA)
