Iraq and Spain Stress the Importance of Strengthening Economic Relations Between Them and Exchanging Official Visits

Baghdad / NINA / Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, and Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Al-Barris stressed the importance of strengthening economic relations between the two countries and exchanging official visits.

 A statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said: “Hussein met with the Spanish Foreign Minister, on the sidelines of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit held in the American capital, Washington, on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the alliance.”

 During the meeting, the two sides praised the distinguished relations between the two countries, and discussed the mission of the NATO mission in Iraq and the Spanish role within the framework of this alliance.

 The Spanish Foreign Minister explained: “At the current stage, the NATO’s tasks include the fields of security, combating terrorism, energy, innovation and climate, as well as other areas of cooperation, especially with the countries of the South.”

 The two sides stressed, according to the statement, the importance of strengthening economic relations between the two countries and the importance of exchanging official visits.

 The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed Iraq's welcome to the work of Spanish companies, and thanked his Spanish counterpart for his country's recognition of the Palestinian state, calling for efforts to be made within the framework of the European Union and NATO to stop the war and prevent the spread of the conflict.

 The two ministers also expressed their concern about the recent escalation in southern Lebanon, and agreed on the importance of establishing stability in the region.

 According to the statement, the two sides discussed the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani to Spain, stressing the importance of close cooperation between the two countries in the next stage.”/End
