ISLAM HADHARI HAS SIMILARITY TO 1MALAYSIA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 (Bernama) -- The Islam Hadhari concept implemented by
former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has similarity to the 1Malaysia
concept introduced by Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Maj-Gen (R) Jamil Khir
Baharom said the Opposition claim that Islam Hadhari had failed and not linked
to 1Malaysia was untrue.

"If take a close look at the ten principles of Islam Hadhari and link them
to 1Malaysia, then we can see a close similarity.

"In order to create harmony, strengthen faith in Allah, man has to be always
in contact with Allah. This can be achieved via the justice and trust approach
to create 1Malaysia irrespective of the people's religious background or race,"
he told Lower House of Parliament here Tuesday.

He said this to a supplementary question by Mohd Yusmadi Mohd Yusoff, an
opposition MP, who asked the connection between Islam Hadhari and 1Malaysia.

Earlier, Jamil Khir told Siti Zailah Mohd Yusoff, another opposition MP that

studies on Islam Hadhari showed that 84.8 percent of 2,244 respondents had
agreed and accepted the Islam Hadhari approach.

"The studies include that on the society's understanding and acceptance of
the Islam Hadhari approach by Pakarunding Sdn Bhd, Universiti Kebangsaan
Malaysia (National University of Malaysia), a public university, which covered
2,244 respondents."

The respondents include civil servants, private sector employees, corporate
members, non-governmental organisations (NGO) political parties, undergraduates,
students, educationists and armed forces members.

Jamil Khir said there were also studies and thesis by researchers in public
institutions of higher learning (IPTA) on society's acceptance towards the
Hadhari approach to create Muslims of excellence.

He added the studies and research would help improve and strengthen the
implementation and practice of Islam in Malaysia.
