Maybank Reassures Systems Remain Secure Amid Alleged Database Leakage Claims

KUALA LUMPUR, July 24 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s largest bank Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) has reassured that its systems remain secure and all its customers' information is fully protected amid alleged claims that its Maybank2u database was published on a dark web forum.

"Nevertheless, we take these security concerns very seriously and continue to monitor and ensure our data is protected at all times," it said on its official social media platform, X, formerly Twitter Wednesday.

Maybank said that with the various fraud countermeasures put in place, including the use of Secure2U to authenticate transactions and the cooling-off period enabled for high-risk transactions, its customers' online transactions continue to be protected.

Online platform Lowyat.Net reported that a database claiming to contain up to 22 million records of customers allegedly belonging to the bank was put up for sale on a popular dark web marketplace.
