Labubu Ecstasy: New Twist in Drug Trade

CHIANG RAI, July 26 (TNA) - Thai authorities have intercepted a new form of ecstasy disguised as the popular Labubu doll, highlighting the evolving tactics of drug dealers.

Police raided a karaoke bar in Chiang Rai late on Wednesday, arresting six men and four underage girls. Among the seized drugs were ketamine, methamphetamine, and five ecstasy pills shaped like the iconic Labubu character.

The discovery has raised concerns among officials who believe the design is a deliberate attempt to appeal to young people and mask the dangerous effects of the drug. Ecstasy, or MDMA, has been linked to numerous deaths and health complications.

"This is a clear marketing ploy by drug traffickers," said Director of the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) Region 5 Apikit Ch.Rojprasert. "They are trying to make drug use appear trendy and fashionable."

The Labubu design is the latest in a series of drug-related gimmicks, with past examples including pills shaped like former US President Donald Trump, Hello Kitty, and popular brands.

While the appearance of the drugs may change, the underlying substances remain highly dangerous, police warned.

"We are seeing a new level of sophistication in the drug trade. It's essential that we stay ahead of these criminals "said Deputy National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kitrat Phanphet.

Investigations are ongoing to trace the origin of the Labubu ecstasy pills. -819 (TNA)
