KFSH&RC Jeddah Performs Pioneering Fully Robotic Pancreatic Tumor Removal
Jeddah, August 12, 2024, SPA -- King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) in Jeddah has performed a pioneering fully robotic resection of a pancreatic head tumor on a patient in his sixties.
This innovative surgery is proof of KFSH&RC's dedication to medical innovation and commitment to delivering the highest standards of patient care and experience.
The surgical procedure, carried out entirely by a robot, entailed the removal of the pancreatic head, part of the stomach, the duodenum, and the bile duct. The remaining organs were then reconnected through small abdominal incisions, reducing recovery and hospital stay time, unlike the traditional procedure, which involves a large abdominal incision, higher risk infection, and a longer recovery period.
The medical team said that executing such an advanced procedure required intensive collaboration among qualified multidisciplinary medical teams, including surgeons, nurses, anesthesiologists, radiology, and intensive care teams, and the latest medical equipment. This ensured the best possible outcome for the patient, minimizing risks and potential complications.
They also noted that the patient was an ideal candidate for complete robotic surgery due to his excellent health, despite his age, and the absence of any prior abdominal surgeries. While robotic surgery enhances the precision and efficiency of the procedure, it is not a suitable option for all patients.
This medical achievement paves the way for expanding the use of robotic surgery to a broader range of patients, improving medical outcomes, patient experience, and operational efficiency.
It reaffirms KFSH&RC’s commitment to innovation in healthcare practices and delivering medical solutions that surpass traditional practices.
King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre ranked first in the Middle East and Africa and 20th globally in the list of world’s top 250 Academic Medical Centers for the second consecutive year, and was recognized as the most valuable healthcare brand in the Kingdom and the Middle East, in the 2024 Brand Finance rankings. It ranked among the world's best 250 hospitals by Newsweek magazine.
