IRANIAN, PAKISTANI ARRESTED FOR GROWING GANJA IN APARTMENT
KUALA LUMPUR, July 2 Bernama) -- An Iranian male teenager and a Pakistani
man were arrested by police while harvesting home-grown ganja, planted in pots
at their rented Sri Ampang Apartment in Jalan Sulaiman here, on Tuesday.
During the 4.30pm raid, police also seized 11 small packets of ganja and two
kilogrammes of syabu, worth about RM700,000.
Ampang Jaya Deputy OCPD, Supt Amiruddin Jamaluddin said during the raid, the
Iranian, 16, and Pakistani, 22, were picking ganja leaves from the potted plants
and placing them into a red plastic bag.
"Upon realising the presence of police, they threw the red plastic bag
to the ground and tried to escape, but were arrested by police who also found
three small packets of ganja on them.
"Based on the size, we believe the ganja plants are two or three months
old," he told reporters here, Thursday.
He said police also found RM308,000 cash and jewellery worth RM5,000 at
their rented apartment.
Amiruddin said checks on both men revealed that they had entered Malaysia in
2004 but only the Pakistani had travel documents and had a visitor's pass that
was valid until July 17.
"Police did not find any documents on the teenager, but we believe he came
to Malaysia in 2004 and stayed with his family at the rented apartment," he
said.
Both men are remanded an investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous
Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence, upon conviction.
