Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan Pays Courtesy Call on President of Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar, September 23, 2024 /MONTSAME/. On the sidelines of the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York City, President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa received Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Tobgay on September 22, 2024.

At the meeting, President Khurelsukh emphasized the importance of relations and cooperation with the Kingdom of Bhutan in Mongolia’s Foreign Policy towards the Asia-Pacific region. President noted that the mutual exchange of experiences and the efforts to expand trade and economic cooperation are vital for landlocked developing countries.

Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Bhutan Dasho Tshering Tobgay remarked that the first State Visit by King of Bhutan His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck to Mongolia earlier this year was of high significance in advancing cooperation in agriculture, animal husbandry, environmental protection, and tourism. Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay noted that this visit has made Mongolian history, culture, and traditions dear to the hearts of the Bhutanese people. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Government and people of Mongolia for the hospitality extended to the Bhutanese delegation.

The two sides agreed to collaborate to contribute to global efforts in combating climate change and desertification and protecting the environment. The two sides discussed the possibility of implementing joint projects and programs under Mongolia’s “One Billion Trees” National Campaign and the " One Hundred Million Fruit Trees Project” initiated by His Majesty the King of Bhutan, to strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation.

Additionally, the two sides reaffirmed mutual commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation within the United Nations and other international organizations.

At the invitation of President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, King of Bhutan His Majesty Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck paid a State Visit to Mongolia on July 8-15, 2024. This was the first State Visit by the King of Bhutan since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Kingdom of Bhutan in January 2012.
