SC CHAIRMAN RECEIVES PRESTIGIOUS ISLAMIC FINANCE AWARD
KUALA LUMPUR, July 3 (Bernama) -- Zarinah Anwar, chairman of the Malaysian
Securities Commission (SC), has received the prestigious Islamic finance award
which was held in conjunction with the London Sukuk Summit on July 2 and 3.
She was presented with the "Most Outstanding Contribution to the Development
of an Islamic Capital Market" award, the SC said in a statement here Friday.
Since taking over the helm of SC in April 2006, Zarinah has been at the
forefront of Islamic capital market development, the commission said.
Under her stewardship, Malaysia remains firmly established as one of the
largest issuers of sukuk globally, with 60 percent of the world's issuance of
sukuk originating from Malaysia, it said.
Today, about 87 percent of the listed securities on the Malaysia stock
exchange are Syariah-compliant, it added.
Malaysia offers a full range of end-to-end Syariah-compliant products and
services, including Syariah-compliant equities, sukuk, unit trust funds, Islamic
exchange traded funds (ETFs), Islamic real estate investment trusts (REITs), and
structured products and derivatives.
The London Sukuk Summit Awards honour the efforts of individuals and
institutions that have contributed significantly to the development of the
Islamic finance industry globally.
