On UN Day, Foreign Minister highlights Bahrain's commitment to cooperation for global peace and prosperity

Manama, Oct. 24 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, underscored Bahrain’s commitment, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and with the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to enhance strategic cooperation and partnership with the United Nations and its specialised agencies.

This collaboration aims to support the role of the UN in its efforts to maintain international peace and security and support comprehensive and sustainable development for a safer, more just, and prosperous world, Al Zayani added.

On the occasion of United Nations Day and the 79th anniversary of the UN Charter's entry into force, the minister expressed pride in Bahrain's long-standing cooperation with the UN since the early 1970s, highlighting its alignment with the UN's principles in achieving peace and promoting international cooperation based on mutual respect and dialogue to resolve conflicts while respecting state sovereignty.

Dr. Al Zayani noted Bahrain's ongoing diplomatic efforts in support of global peace, stability, and prosperity, in line with the directives of His Majesty the King and the government’s objectives. He highlighted Bahrain's commitment to international agreements and its support for the Sustainable Development Goals and the Global Digital Compact.

Furthermore, the minister urged the international community to actively respond to the royal initiatives from the Arab Summit regarding hosting an international peace conference in the Middle East and establishing a Palestinian state based on the two-state solution.

He emphasised the importance of providing educational and healthcare services to conflict-affected populations and enhancing international cooperation in fintech, innovation, and digital transformation.

The minister also emphasised HM the King's call before the International Parliamentary Union for an international agreement to criminalise hate speech and prevent the misuse of media platforms to incite extremism and terrorism.

Al Zayani commended HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister's vision presented at the UN General Assembly, advocating for comprehensive reform of the UN and enhancing the roles of the IMF, World Bank, and WHO. HRH proposed establishing an international treaty governing the development of artificial intelligence to maximise the international community's capability in addressing geopolitical, environmental, health, and technological challenges.

Dr. Al Zayani expressed pride in Bahrain's active participation in global forums and its prominent positions in human development, e-government, economic freedom, youth empowerment, women's advancement, and human rights.

The minister highlighted Bahrain's initiatives, including global awards for humanitarian service, peaceful coexistence, and contributions through the Royal Humanitarian Foundation and the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence, which promotes respect for religious freedom and cultural diversity, while aiming for carbon neutrality by 2060.

Dr. Al Zayani expressed his appreciation to the national diplomatic competencies for their dedicated service in the ministry, diplomatic missions, and the UN, emphasising their commitment to multilateral diplomacy and international solidarity in supporting security, stability, peace, and humanitarian efforts, in line with the National Human Rights Action Plan (2022-2026) and the strategic cooperation framework signed with 21 UN agencies and programmes.
