Anwar Meets French, South African Presidents, And Counterparts From UK, Vietnam At G20 Summit

RIO DE JANEIRO (Brazil), Nov 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim held a meeting with the President of France, Emmanuel Macron, on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
"During this meeting, we expressed our commitment to continue to strengthen relations and cooperation between the two countries.
“It covers the fields of trade, investment, tourism and defence as well as cooperation in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI),” he told Malaysian reporters here on Monday.
Anwar and Macron discussed Malaysia's role as ASEAN Chair 2025 and the Malaysian prime minister expressed his appreciation to Macron for his support through the ASEAN-France Development Cooperation.
In addition, the two leaders also had time to discuss the genocide that occurred in Palestine which requires a ceasefire as soon as possible and the cooperation of all parties to end the suffering of the people there.
Besides meeting with Macron, the Prime Minister also held a pull-aside meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa here on Monday.
The discussion with Ramaphosa focused on enhancing bilateral ties in the areas of diplomacy, education, trade and investment.
Anwar's conversation with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, also revolved around strengthening bilateral ties and furthering collaboration between both countries.
“He invited me to visit the UK. We are looking into it,” said Anwar.
Anwar said his discussion with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Pham Minh Chinh, meanwhile, touched on ASEAN, particularly the ASEAN Power Grid from Vietnam, through Peninsular Malaysia to Singapore.
"Vietnam supports this initiative,” he said.
