Macron’s X Post in Malay Language Sparks Admiration Among Netizens

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 20 (Bernama) – French President Emmanuel Macron surprised many by using the Malay language in a post on his official X account, @EmmanuelMacron, about his meeting with Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim at the G20 Summit.

The post, though concise, was written entirely in Malay, garnering admiration and curiosity from netizens.

Accompanying the post were photographs of Macron and Anwar shaking hands during their bilateral meeting at the recently concluded G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The gesture prompted a flurry of comments praising Macron for his thoughtful use of the national language.

One user, @ehsan_zakaria, wrote, “I thought it was X auto-translate, but he actually used Malay! The Malay language goes global!.”

Similarly, @safwanmohamad remarked, “I thought it was a translated speech … Turns out it’s actually in Malay.”

Another netizen, @d_syahir, expressed pride, posting, *I’m proud! Even foreigners are using Malay.”

Interestingly, the post also evoked memories of past French-Malaysian interactions.

User @azrullez commented, “Do visit Malaysia. The last time a French President came to Malaysia was in 2017, President Francois Hollande.”

During their meeting on the sidelines of the G20 Summit, Macron and Anwar reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening relations and cooperation between France and Malaysia.
