Hanwha Aerospace bags 473 bln-won deal to supply parts for KF-21 fighter jet

SEOUL, Nov. 26 (Yonhap) -- Hanwha Aerospace Co. said Tuesday it has won a 473 billion-won (US$336.6 million) contract from Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd. to supply components for South Korea's next-generation KF-21 fighter jets.

Under the deal, Hanwha Aerospace will supply key components, including the auxiliary power unit, as well as propulsion, landing, drive and fuel system components for the initial production fleet of the KF-21 until 2028.

In June, Hanwha Aerospace also signed a contract with the national defense procurement office, the Defense Acquisition Program Administration, to supply engines for the KF-21.

South Korea launched the KF-21 development program in 2015 with the aim of acquiring a homegrown supersonic fighter to replace its aging fleet of F-4 and F-5 jets.
