Seoul shares open higher on tech gains


SEOUL, July 6 (Yonhap) -- South Korean stocks started higher Monday as investors
snapped up tech blue chips on expectations of higher second-quarter earnings,
analysts said.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) added 2.15 points, or
0.15 percent, to 1,422.19 in the first 15 minutes of trading.
Market leader Samsung Electronics advanced 3.66 percent after announcing that its
second-quarter operating profits were expected to reach between 2.2 trillion won
(US$1.7 billion) and 2.6 trillion won.
The local currency was trading at 1,267.65 won to the U.S. dollar as of 9:15
a.m., down 1.65 won from Friday's close.
