Tourism Malaysia Supports New Flight Routes Connecting Johor Bahru-Bangkok

JOHOR BAHRU (Johor, Malaysia), Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Tourism Malaysia has expressed its support for Batik Air’s new flight routes connecting Johor Bahru (in Malaysia’s southern state Johor) to Bangkok, Thailand directly, which started on Sunday.

Its director-general, Manoharan Periasamy said the move will boost local tourism, especially in Johor while also strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries.

"We are delighted to collaborate with Batik Air on this new route and to host a 3-day, 2-night familiarisation trip for Thailand tour agents.

"This initiative aligns with our goals of advancing ASEAN cooperation and regional tourism while emphasising Malaysia’s dedication as it assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025," he said in a statement Monday.

He added that strengthening connectivity between key cities in the ASEAN region and second-tier destinations like Johor Bahru was vital to fostering greater regional integration and showcasing Malaysia’s diverse tourism offerings.

Batik Air’s new routes will connect Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) in Bangkok, Thailand to Senai International Airport in Johor Bahru, here.

The new route, OD531, operates seven flights per week, and features a Boeing 737-800 (B738) aircraft departing Bangkok at 1:45 pm and arriving in Johor Bahru at 5:15 pm.
