TEHRAN, Dec. 08 (MNA) –
According to Mehr News Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, considering the recent developments in Syria, reaffirmed Iran’s principled stance on respecting Syria's unity, national sovereignty, and territorial integrity. It emphasized that determining Syria’s fate and decisions about its future are solely the responsibility of its people, free from any destructive interference or foreign imposition.
Achieving this goal requires the immediate cessation of military conflicts, prevention of terrorist activities, and the initiation of national dialogues with the participation of all segments of Syrian society to form an inclusive government representing all Syrian people.
The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to support international mechanisms centered on United Nations Security Council Resolution 2254 to pursue the political process in Syria and maintains constructive engagement with the United Nations in this regard.
At this critical juncture in Syria's history, ensuring the security of all Syrian citizens and foreign nationals, preserving the sanctity of religious sites, and protecting diplomatic and consular premises in accordance with international law are of paramount importance.
The relations between the people of Iran and Syria have a long-standing and friendly history, and it is expected that these ties will continue with a wise and forward-looking approach by both countries, based on mutual interests and adherence to international legal obligations.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, emphasizing Syria's position as an important and influential country in the West Asia region, will spare no effort to help establish security and stability in Syria. To this end, it will continue consultations with all key stakeholders, particularly within the region.
