Exports by conglomerates up 16.2 pct in Q3: data
SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Yonhap) -- Exports by South Korean conglomerates advanced 16.2 percent on-year in the third quarter of 2024, data showed Friday, driven by robust shipments of information technology and chemical products.
Outbound shipments by conglomerates amounted to US$116.7 billion during the July-September period, compared with $100 billion posted a year earlier, according to data compiled by Statistics Korea.
The growth outpaced the 10.6 percent increase in South Korea's total exports during the same period.
Conglomerate-affiliated businesses accounted for 865 out of the total 66,837 exporters, the data also showed.
Exports by medium-sized businesses, on the other hand, dropped 4.1 percent over the cited period due to weaker overseas sales of transportation products, while those by small companies increased 5.6 percent.
Shipments by the 10 leading exporters accounted for 37.4 percent of total outbound shipments in the third quarter, up from 34.2 percent tallied a year earlier.
The portion by South Korea's top 100 exporters rose 2.3 percentage points over the cited period to 67.6 percent.
