Faker named best esports athlete by TGA for 2nd consecutive year
SEOUL, Dec. 13 (Yonhap) -- South Korean esports star Faker has won the best esports athlete of the year title for the second straight year in 2024 at one of the most prestigious global game awards.
Faker, whose Korean name is Lee Sang-hyeok, won the title at The Game Awards (TGA), an annual global video gaming awards, held in Los Angeles on Thursday (U.S. time).
Faker led his team, T1, to its second consecutive victory last month in the World Championship of League of Legends (LoL), one of the most popular games across the globe.
Earlier this year, the 28-year-old became the first inductee in the LoL Esports Hall of Legends, being recognized for his mastery of gameplay and contributions to the sport, according to the game's developer Riot Games.
In the latest TGA, T1 was also named the best esports team of this year.
