“Nursultan 2009” mountain climbing contest
Almaty, July 07, 2009 (Khabar) - Both professional and amateur mountain climbers have climbed the Nursultan peak. The decision to hold the “Nursultan 2009” mountain climbing contest was supported by the National Olympic Committee. Although over thousand people expressed their will to climb this peak, only 214 of them were able to reach the top. Nikolay Petrovich Duplenko, who is 78 years old, was the oldest participant of this contest and 12-year old Rishat Khaibullin, who climbed the mountain together with his father Rinat Khaibullin, was the youngest one. The programme of this event included a high-speed climb from Chimbulak resort to the top of Nursultan peak. Rafael Faizullin, who spent 1 hour 58 minutes and 47 seconds on his climb, was the first.

The contest programme also featured some speed ascents featuring 16 people starting at the Chimbulak ski resort and finishing at the summit. Rafael Faizullin was the first to reach the peak with a time of 1 hour 58 minutes and 47 seconds. Andrey Puchinin came second with Timur Artyukhin arriving third. Yekaterina Andreyeva won the women’s discipline.
