MALAYSIAN CUSTOMS DEPT SEIZES 25KG KETAMINE FROM INDIA
NILAI (Malaysia), July 7 (Bernama) -- The Customs Department uncovered a
drug pipeline from India when it seized 25kg of ketamine at the Kuala Lumpur
International Airport last Friday.
The department's narcotics division found the drug, worth about RM450,000,
hidden in two of three boxes declared as containing A4 paper.
The boxes had arrived from Trichy, Tamil Nadu (South India).
Customs investigations director Zainul Abidin Taib said Monday today that
two men, including a 25-year-old Indian national, were detained when they
claimed the boxes from the Malaysia Airlines counter about 11am.
He said an inspection of two of the boxes revealed 10 plastic packages
containing white crystal powder hidden within 116 reams of A4 paper.
At a news conference in the Customs narcotics division headquarters in
Kampung Jijan Tengah near here, Zainul Abidin said the foreigner was the
receipient of the parcel while the other man was a local, aged 27.
He said the duo would be remanded for seven days to facilitate
investigations into the seizure.
