Malaysia’s Appelate Court Remits Najib's Legal Bid Over Alleged Royal Addendum To High Court

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Jan 6 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s Court of Appeal, in a 2-1 majority decision, has remitted Najib Razak's legal bid regarding his claim of the existence of a royal addendum allowing him to serve the remainder of his six-year prison sentence under house arrest, to the High Court for a hearing on its merits.

Justices Azhahari Kamal Ramli and Mohd Firuz Jaffril allowed the former premier's appeal to overturn the High Court's dismissal of his application for leave to commence a judicial review on the matter.

However, Justice Azizah Nawawi, who led the panel, dissented stating Najib’s appeal had no merit.

Justice Azizah also denied Najib's application to adduce additional evidence to support his claim of the existence of such an addendum, whereas Justices Azhari and Mohd Firuz allowed it.

Najib, 71, is appealing the Kuala Lumpur High Court’s July 3 decision last year, which dismissed his application for leave to commence a judicial review of a purported addendum issued by the 16th Malaysia’s King.
