Export fair to highlight S. Korean cultural themes
By Park Bo-ram
SEOUL, July 7 (Yonhap) -- An export fair highlighting the latest cultural trends
in South Korea will be held later this month to help local companies capitalize
on popular culture to boost exports, the fair organizer said Tuesday.
For the event, a total of 160 firms and other institutions will showcase products
inspired by the Korean alphabet Hangeul, as well as traditional food, costumes,
housing, paperware and music, according to the Secretariat of Korean Style Expo
2009.
"The event is designed to help local firms better utilize Korean themes as an
industrial brand in order to expand into overseas markets," the organizer said in
a statement.
Several designers will also take part in the event to display various South
Korean images that can be used commercially by local companies, it said.
The fair, sponsored by the culture, agriculture, and transportation ministries,
will run from July 23-26 at a convention center in southern Seoul.
