ASEAN Tourism Forum 2025 Kicks Off Wednesday

JOHOR BAHRU (Johor, Malaysia), Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2025 begins Wednesday here, bringing together tourism stakeholders from across Southeast Asia for a week-long series of events aimed at promoting collaboration and sustainable growth in the regional tourism sector.

Held at the DoubleTree by Hilton from January 15 to 20, this year’s forum is centred on the theme "Unity in Motion: Shaping ASEAN's Tourism Tomorrow," reflecting the event’s goal of fostering regional cooperation across cultural and geographical boundaries.

The event will be attended by Tourism, Arts, and Culture Minister Tiong King Sing, along with tourism ministers from other ASEAN nations, government officials, corporate leaders, and media representatives from all 10 ASEAN member states.

A wide array of activities is planned throughout the six-day event, including high-level meetings such as the 15th ASEAN-Russia Tourism Consultation Meeting, the 33rd ASEAN-India Tourism Working Group Meeting, and the 61st ASEAN National Tourism Organisations (NTOs) Meeting.

As part of the forum, the 28th ASEAN Tourism Ministers meeting, ASEAN Tourism Awards Ceremony, and ASEAN Tourism Minister’s Press Conference will also be held, apart from the popular Travel Exchange (TRAVEX) trade fair.

The Travel Exchange (TRAVEX) serves as a trade-focused platform where tourism products and services from across ASEAN are showcased and set to attract hundreds of sellers and buyers from ASEAN countries and international markets while providing an opportunity for businesses to forge partnerships, promote regional tourism, and drive growth in the sector.

A significant development during the event will be the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Malaysia and South Korea to further strengthen tourism ties between the two countries.

ATF 2025 is particularly significant as Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship this year, further emphasising its commitment to driving sustainable tourism in the region.

Last year, during the ATF 2024 held in Vientiane, Laos, Malaysia focused on advancing sustainable tourism practices, with initiatives aimed at promoting ecotourism, preserving natural resources, and engaging local communities.

This is the second time Malaysia is hosting the ATF, the first being in Kuching of east Malaysian state Sarawak in 2014.
