THREE OPM MEMBERS SURRENDER
Jayapura, July 7 (ANTARA) - Three members of the separatist Free Papua Organization (OPM) who claimed to come from Kapeso, Mamberamo Raya, have surrendered through the head of Karudu village in the district of Yapen.
The chief of the Papua regional police command, Inspector General Bagus Ekodanto, told ANTARA on Tuesday evening the three who surrendered were Yeret Runawari (59), Yusuf Aminam (27) and Lukas Bilasi (19).
He said the three had earlier asked for protection from the head of Karudu village, Marthen Rumbewas, in the district of Yapen and at around 9am local time they were handed over to the Yapen police command.
He said according to reports the three were involved in the Kapeso case.
Several OPM members controlled Kapeso in the district of Mamberamo Raya for around a month recently before police finally took control of the village again.
To assure security the Papua police command has set up a police post there, he said.
Mamberamo acting district head Demianus Kyuew Kyuew admitted to ANTARA on a separate occasion that villagers had returned to Kapeso in stages.
"Villagers are returning in stages to their homes which they fled some time ago," he said.
