Presidential office says no damage from cyber attack
SEOUL, July 8 (Yonhap) -- South Korea's presidential office said Wednesday that the recent cyber attack did not cause damage to the office's network.
"The recent attack was not aimed at hacking into data, but at disrupting Internet
access," Cheong Wa Dae said in a press release. "Cheong Wa Dae has separate inner
and outer networks and thus, no damage has been caused."
The presidential office runs the official Internet homepage open to the public,
as well as a separate internal network.
A series of cyber attacks disrupted the nation's major Web sites of government
agencies including Cheong Wa Dae and foreign and defense ministries, as well as
leading portal sites. Due to the so-called denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks, 11
domestic Internet sites have been shut down or slowed down for hours.
The prosecution and police said they have launched an investigation into the
Internet attack.
