Vietnam secures second gold at 2025 Asian road cycling championships

Hanoi (VNA) - Vietnam clinched its second gold medal at the 2025 Asian Road Cycling Championships in Thailand on February 12.

Accordingly, Ton Hoang Khanh Lan delivered a victory in the women's mass start - master event. She outpaced Mongolia’s Dorchimed Erdenetuya in a dramatic sprint to the finish, securing a precious gold for the national team.

Competing against cyclists from Thailand, Hong Kong (China), Iraq, Pakistan, and Mongolia, Vietnam’s squad featuring Ton Hoang Khanh Lan, Pham Minh Nhan, Truong Thi Quynh, and Hoang Thi Hang showed remarkable composure despite their debut at a continental-level competition.

The Vietnamese cyclists maintained a strong pace throughout the race, staying with the leading pack before Khanh Lan made her decisive move in the final stretch.

Her explosive late surge left Erdenetuya trailing behind, sealing Vietnam’s second gold of the tournament after Hoang Hai Nam’s win in the men’s individual time trial (60+) – master category.

Adding to the team’s success, Nhan, Quynh, and Hang also put in stellar performances, securing bronze medals to bolster Vietnam’s medal tally.

What makes Khanh Lan’s triumph even more extraordinary is her non-traditional cycling background. A seasoned bodybuilding athlete with over 20 years of experience, she only took up cycling in 2022.

In just two years, she has dominated domestic amateur races and now stands atop the Asian stage.

This landmark achievement not only cements her reputation as a rising star in Vietnamese cycling but also fuels her ambition for future challenges, including the 2025 National Bodybuilding Championships./.
