With Mineral Reserves Valued at over SAR4.6 Trillion, Northern Borders Region Positions Saudi Arabia Among World’s Largest Phosphate Producers

Arar, February 16, 2025, SPA -- The Northern Borders Region of Saudi Arabia boasts an abundance of mineral resources, valued at over SAR4.669 trillion. These resources form part of the Kingdom’s vast mineral reserves, which are being explored and developed in alignment with Saudi Vision 2030. The initiative aims to establish mining as a key contributor to economic diversification and national income.
The region is home to significant phosphate deposits, a critical component in ensuring both local and global food security due to its essential role in agricultural fertilizer production. Phosphate production projects in Wa’ad Al-Shamal City have positioned Saudi Arabia among the world's largest producers and exporters of phosphate.
Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources Spokesperson Jarrah Al-Jarrah said that the Northern Borders Region contains high-quality mineral ores, including phosphate, coal, dolomite, limestone, and silica sand, with a total estimated value of SAR4.6 trillion.
He also noted that the region includes five phosphate ore reserve sites and 29 active mining licenses, comprising 15 licenses for construction materials quarries and 14 exploitation licenses.
Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Alkhorayef is scheduled to visit the Northern Borders Region on Sunday to inspect industrial and developmental projects. His visit aligns with the ministry’s efforts to stimulate local and international investments in the mining sector and reinforce its role as a key driver of economic diversification, in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030.
