Indonesian diaspora in Europe encouraged to support agri exports

Jakarta, Feb 21 (ANTARA) - Deputy Minister of Agriculture Sudaryono invited the Indonesian diaspora in Europe to actively help strengthen the exports of agricultural commodities for the welfare of farmers.

In a focus group discussion on increasing agricultural and livestock exports here on Thursday, Sudaryono highlighted the importance of collaboration between Indonesian entrepreneurs and the diaspora to open markets for Indonesian agricultural products to Europe.

He expressed optimism that Indonesian agricultural exports would grow rapidly with the synergy between the Indonesian diaspora and entrepreneurs.

In addition, Sudaryono highlighted that Indonesian agricultural products possess advantages that are rarely found in other countries, citing palm sugar, processed coffee, and coffee beans as examples with huge potential in the European market.

"If other countries like Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia can do it, why can't we? I believe we can improve the welfare of the people with the help of the role of diaspora in other countries," he remarked.

He also encouraged foreign entrepreneurs to work together with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Indonesia to accelerate economic equality.

He stated that this also accelerates the national agricultural product downstreaming program, which can provide added value for farmers.

Given the opportunities it offers, he encouraged the Indonesian diaspora in Europe to engage in business matching with SME players in Indonesia.

Sudaryono further said that his ministry continues to strive to increase domestic production with advanced technology and mechanization to curb failures and boost productivity.

The deputy minister expressed hope that exports would create a positive image of Indonesian farmers. To this end, he encouraged an increase in exports by boosting domestic production.

With those steps, it is expected that Indonesia will be able to strengthen its agriculture sector in the global market and improve the welfare of farmers and the country's economy as a whole.
