M'SIA, CHINA WORKING TOWARDS MUTUAL RECOGNITION IN ACADEMIC CERTIFICATION
PUTRAJAYA, July 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and China are working together
towards mutual recognition in academic certification of both countries.
Deputy Higher Education Minister Dr Hou Kok Chung said a special unit had
been set up and is expected to visit China end of this month or early next month
to check on the quality and standards of the higher learning institutions
involved.
"This is also in conjunction with the 35th anniversary of Malaysia-China
diplomatic ties. But we still need more meetings to iron out all the issues
related to the matter," he told a news conference after receiving a courtesy
call from China's vice minister for education, Prof Hao Ping here, Thursday.
Hou said both countries would ink an agreement on mutual recognition on
academic certificates from both countries in October or November this year.
At the moment, the Chinese government also has not recognised all degree
programmes from Malaysian universities.
Meanwhile, when asked how many degree programmes from Malaysian universities
will be recognised by the Chinese government, Hao said it would also depend on
how many Chinese universities would be recognised by the Malaysian government.
