HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad meets IOC President to discuss cooperation

Kuwait, May 11 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC), met with Kirsty Coventry, President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The meeting took place during His Highness’s visit to Kuwait for the 37th meeting of the Presidents of Olympic Committees in the GCC countries and the General Assembly of the Olympic Council of Asia.

 

The meeting was attended by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the BOC; Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, Secretary-General of the BOC; and Fajer Jassim, Board Member of the BOC.

 

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad congratulated Kirsty Coventry on assuming her new role, wishing her success in leading the world’s foremost Olympic institution. His Highness emphasised the Kingdom of Bahrain’s full support for all initiatives aimed at advancing the Olympic Movement and promoting the values of sport, peace, and cooperation.

 

Both sides discussed means to enhance cooperation between the BOC and the IOC, particularly in areas such as Olympic programme development, women's empowerment, and expanding sports participation to raise Bahrain’s global sporting profile.

 

HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad and Coventry commended the level of bilateral relations and underlined the importance of continued coordination to support athletes in line with the principles and values of the Olympic Movement.
