Al-Sudani Receives the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN

Baghdad / NINA /-Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received on Wednesday the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq, Mohammed Al-Hassan. They reviewed the course of cooperation between Iraq and the international organization, the situation in the region, and the most prominent issues to be discussed at the 34th Arab Summit, which will be hosted by the capital, Baghdad, next Saturday, and the parallel summits.
According to a statement from his office, the Prime Minister highlighted the important role played by the United Nations mission in Iraq and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General, as well as the programs sponsored in cooperation with the government. He stressed Iraq's commitment to continued joint coordination and the region's need to strengthen dialogue in order to create more opportunities for sustainable development.
Al-Hassan delivered a letter from UN Secretary-General António Guterres to the Prime Minister, which included praise for Iraq's recent accelerated efforts to return Iraqi citizens from Al-Hol and Al-Roj camps, and detention facilities in Syria, and the importance of allocating resources to maintain the process of rehabilitation, integration, and accountability, in line with international laws and standards. He also affirmed that the relevant UN offices will continue their close cooperation with the competent authorities in Iraq to ensure the safe return of Iraqi citizens and facilitate their reintegration./End
