Bahrain chairs meeting of Arab League senior officials ahead of Baghdad summit

Cairo, May 14 (BNA): Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the Arab Republic of Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, chaired the meeting of permanent representatives and senior officials held in Baghdad in preparation for the upcoming meeting of Arab foreign ministers, ahead of the 34th regular Arab League Summit hosted by the Republic of Iraq.

The meeting was attended by Hossam Zaki, Assistant Secretary General of the League of Arab States.

Ambassador Fawzia bint Abdulla Zainal commended the Republic of Iraq for its preparations to host the summit. The Ambassador also extended appreciation to the League’s General Secretariat for its efforts in organising the event. She wished Iraq a successful summit that would enhance Arab cooperation and serve the common interests of the Arab nation.

Ambassador Zainal emphasised that during its presidency of the 33rd Arab Summit in May 2024, the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, remained committed to advancing joint Arab action across all sectors. She underlined Bahrain’s belief in Arab cooperation, solidarity, and integration as fundamental principles for advancing collective efforts and addressing regional challenges.

She noted that Bahrain had actively followed up on the implementation of the resolutions and outcomes of the Bahrain Summit, across political, economic, social, and development domains. The Kingdom also monitored the progress of the initiatives it proposed, which were adopted during the summit.

To support the continuity of these efforts, Bahrain launched a central database at the League’s General Secretariat to document the contributions of member states to the implementation of the Bahrain Summit initiatives. Additionally, the Kingdom developed an electronic platform to monitor the execution of summit decisions and prepared a comprehensive media plan to highlight Arab efforts in this regard.

Ambassador Zainal thanked Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States, as well as the Secretariat’s staff and permanent representatives for their cooperation and support during Bahrain’s presidency of the 33rd Summit.

Dr. Qahtan Taha Khalaf Al Janabi, Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq to Egypt and Permanent Representative to the League of Arab States, chaired the remainder of the meeting. Ambassador Zainal wished him success and expressed confidence in Iraq’s ability to further advance joint Arab action in line with the aspirations of the region’s peoples.
