FIBA Foundation holds youth event in Bahrain

Manama, May 17 (BNA): The FIBA Foundation held a youth event at Khalifa Sports City, with wide participation from young boys and girls. The activity was part of the social programmes accompanying the 2025 FIBA Congress in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
Known as the "FIBA Foundation Clinic," the event aims to build a grassroots base of basketball talent by offering interactive training sessions for children. These were led by certified FIBA coaches and focused on basic basketball skills such as passing, shooting, and team movement, while also promoting values like teamwork, discipline, and equality.
The event drew notable attention with the presence of global basketball stars, including German legend Dirk Nowitzki, former Dallas Mavericks player in the NBA, who engaged with the children and followed their training closely.
The presence of well-known figures like Nowitzki serves as strong motivation for young participants, giving them a boost of confidence and encouraging them to pursue their dreams and follow in the footsteps of top international players.
The initiative falls under the Basketball for Good programme, one of the core pillars of the FIBA Foundation, the social and cultural arm of the International Basketball Federation. The programme uses basketball to promote health, education, gender equality, and social justice in line with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
Since its launch in 2016, Basketball for Good has reached over 95,000 beneficiaries annually in 158 countries, reflecting the foundation’s commitment to creating real social impact through sport.
Hosting this event in Bahrain reflects FIBA’s confidence in the Kingdom’s ability to support global development initiatives and its growing role in promoting community sport and positioning basketball as a tool for positive change.
The FIBA Foundation is also responsible for preserving basketball’s cultural legacy through its management of the House of Basketball – Patrick Baumann, a global hub for the sport’s history and achievements.
