China, India demonstrate interest in Snezhinka station on Yamal — minister
MOSCOW, May 20. /TASS/. China and India demonstrate interest in the Snezhinka (Snowflake) international Arctic station, which is being created on the Yamal. It is possible that in the future the station may become a project of the BRICS countries, Minister for Development of the Far East and Arctic Alexey Chekunkov said.
"In compliance with the Arctic zone development strategy, we have been creating the Snezhinka international research station – an autonomous scientific and educational complex using renewable energy sources," he said. "The project is being implemented by MIPT jointly with the Ministry of Education and Science, Yamal's government. China and India have demonstrated interest in the project. Therefore, we hope that it may become international, it may be a project of the BRICS countries."
The Snezhinka construction project was launched in 2020. The station will use advanced technologies in the clean energy production, life support systems and will become the world's first hydrogen-powered scientific and educational complex. At the station, experts will also conduct practical studies of life support systems in the Arctic.
