Lee Young-pyo signs with Saudi football club
SEOUL, July 11 (Yonhap) -- South Korean football star Lee Young-pyo will join Al
Hilal of the Saudi Arabian professional league, his agency said here Saturday.
The 32-year-old defender, who is now playing for Germany's Dortmund FC, signed a
one-year contract with the Middle Eastern club, becoming the second South Korean
to play in the league after Seol Ki-hyun of England's Fulham FC, according to
GSen Inc.
Details of the contract were not disclosed.
Lee had been playing for England's Tottenham Hotspur FC, and made his European
debut with PSV Eindhoven of the Netherlands in 2003 after an outstanding
performance in the 2002 FIFA World Cup co-hosted by South Korea and Japan.
He won the Player of the Year Award in the Dutch league in 2004.
Al Hilal, an 11-time Saudi Arabian champion, finished runner-up in 2008-09 season.
