Bahrain participates in 64th session of UN legal subcommittee on outer space

Vienna, May 27 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by the Bahrain Space Agency, participated in the 64th session of the Legal Subcommittee of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (COPUOS), held at the United Nations headquarters in Vienna.
The Agency was represented by Shaikha Hessa bint Ali bin Jaber Al Khalifa, Legal Affairs Member at the Agency and Second Vice Chair of the COPUOS Bureau at the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA).
The session addressed key legal issues related to outer space, including the implementation and challenges of the five core space treaties, defining the boundary between airspace and outer space, and the legal framework for space resource utilisation.
Shaikha Hessa bint Ali expressed pride in Bahrain’s role, highlighting the session as a platform for advancing international cooperation in space law and noting the Kingdom’s contribution to shaping global space policies.
Shaikha Hessa bint Ali noted tangible progress was made on legal standards for space resource use, contributing to a comprehensive framework that safeguards state rights and supports peaceful space activities.
Participating delegations worked through three main working groups on space treaties, boundary definitions, and space resources.
Bahrain’s participation reflects the Agency’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the Kingdom’s international presence in specialised space forums and align with global legislative developments in the space sector.
